When information pertinent to the underwriting of insurance coverage and the issuance of an insurance policy has been concealed, misrepresented or is fraudulent in nature, the insurer may have the right in some state jurisdictions, to void a policy's coverage. The misrepresentation must be material in nature and substantial enough that the insurer would not have offered the coverage had the facts been known. The right to void the policy is limited, and the process must occur within a reasonable period of time.
